The Black Ties made up of seasoned performers Chad Saaiman, Keeno Lee Hector and Lloyd Jansen definitely tops my list when it comes to live trios. The fact that they are as dapper as it gets, is an added plus.Oh, and charming, witty and mischevious might I add.
Since conception in 2007, The Black Ties has gone on to perform in Spain and Thailand and has shared the stage with the likes of international heavyweights such as Brian McKnight, Tevin Campbell and Phil Fearon.
From Stevie Wonder to Bruno Mars, The Black Ties slay effortlessly at any beat.
Q and A with The Black Ties
What inspired the name the Black Ties?
When we met to rebrand a few years ago, we felt that we needed something that fit the corporate market better. The Black Ties hinted at black tie dress requirements and alluded to the fact that we mainly wore formal attire.
How would you describe your sound ?
It has evolved over the years, from mostly Motown, old school R&B to include swing, top 40 hits and even some Afrikaans treffers. Being able to tailor-make our set lists to suit any event is a definite advantage.
If you could share the stage with any artist dead or alive, who would it be ?
We all admire David Foster’s body of work, and a Stevie Wonder collaboration would be a dream come true.
Favourite Christmas carol?
Let It Snow, Silent Night and Oh Holy Night are some of our favourites. We recorded a version of This Christmas a few years ago.
What inspires your style ?
We were so blessed to be dressed by Markham for Sounds Like Summer, but our looks are inspired by various sources. Pinterest, style pages on Instagram help. It doesn’t hurt to have Chad on board, as he’s often called one of SA’s most stylish men.
What motto does The Black Ties live by?
It’s more a company ethos than a motto. We always strive to be professional, ethical and to deliver our performances with energy, passion and a side order of humour.
The best part about a Cape Town summer is …
Summer means we are usually quite busy, as it is the event and wedding season. But when we do get a break, it’s the perfect time to enjoy Cape Town’s amazing natural beauty with our loved ones.
What can fans expect from the Black Ties in 2019?
We created “The Black Ties Experience” in 2018 as an opportunity to connect with our fans through various events. We don’t want to give away any secrets, but our next event will probably be family oriented.
Do you believe in new year’s resolutions? If so, what are the Black Ties new years’ resolutions?
We try to improve every time we perform. A yearly improvement is not enough.
